It’s That Time

Every four years I get unbelievably excited for the Olympics – specifically the Winter Games. It’s on my bucket list to attend one year. I’m already counting down till the Opening Ceremony (where I’ll be once again hosting my party to bring in the Games). My favorite events to watch are any of the speedskating ones (both long and short track).

And one of my favorite things about the games (besides watching the actual events and hearing the athlete stories) is the P&G ad campaign. Immediately I pretty much start sobbing and this year’s campaign is no different.

Also – the Raising the Olympian series…just stop. Pass the tissues. I love this one about J.R. Celski (watch for him in the short track speedskating events).

Are you as obsessed with the Olympics as I am? (I’m not going to lie…when I had thyroid cancer 4 years ago – almost to the day – it was during the Olympics which meant I was able to lay on the couch almost the entire two weeks watching all of the events.)

Here We Go February

February is going to be a month full of fun…looking at my calendar already has me excited. There are plenty of events already on my calendar – not including the spontaneous happy hours and brunches that are sure to pop up. Here we go:

1. Super Bowl – Since the Browns aren’t in the Super Bowl (shocker), I’ll be glued to my TV watching the ads. Follow along with my tweets the night of, as I select my best and worst ads (my guess is that GoDaddy will be my least favorite, as it usually is).

2. Dishcrawl – West Side Edition. I’m beyond excited to be heading to my first Dishcrawl. It’s a total surprise about what restaurants you will be going to (minus knowing what side of town you will be dining on). I’m already anxiously awaiting to find out where we may be going.

3. BRITE WINTER 2014 – A festival that’s outdoors in CLE? We’ve all heard of that. But this one is in winter. Arts and music all in Cleveland. The event is community funded, so consider giving back not just by attending, but also financially if you can. (And bundle up!)

4. AAF CLE ADDY Awards – By far one of my most favorite nights of the year, the ADDY awards are the advertising industry’s version of the Emmy awards. As co-chair for the second year, we’ve been anxiously preparing for another great show.

5. Jump Back Ball 23 – By far my favorite Cleveland event, this year’s theme is making outfit options way too much fun. The annual event thrown by The Playhouse Square Partners brings out a few hundred Clevelanders who are ready to eat, drink and dance the night away. I’ve spent hours looking already for the perfect dress, have a make-up and hair appointment scheduled, hotel room reserved, as well as a not shabby date 😉

6. Hunger Network – All About the Bag. This first year event will feature some of my awesome friends as celebrity models, a chance to win some designer handbags, drinks, food and good times. The money raised will help to support the mission of the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland. Buy tickets, bring friends and be ready for a good time!

What events are you looking forward to in February? Will you be attending any of the ones listed above?

Slow Down

Seriously 2014, knock this nonsense off. How is January almost over already?

After ringing in 2014 with some awesome friends, the year has been off to a fast start. With work trips, a serious battle with insomnia, (I’m averaging 2.5 hours a night – any suggestions on to deal?) some serious convos, thyroid issues and busy weekends, I’m ready for 2014 to slow down.

But in the meantime, my weekends have been jam packed. Between a much needed girls night in with clefoodgoddess, multiple brunch plans (my most favorite meal) and catching up with friends, the year has been off to a not bad start at all.

This is how you do girls night in.

Note: Press Wine Bar is a fantastic location for Sunday brunch.

Oh and let’s not forget – The Bachelor is back and better than ever. I’m loving Juan-uary. (Yes, I’m a reality and pop culture fanatic. I admit it.)

How’s your January been?

Time to Sparkle

Ah a New Year. And my start to 2014 has been pretty fantastic. (See previous entry about what I’ve been up to the last few weeks.)

And there are a few things that I want…wait…expect from 2014. Resolutions or whatever you would like to call them.

1. Surround myself with positive people who bring out the best in me. Like these peeps (just a few of the people I want to spend more time with in 2014)

2. Take a leap of faith and say yes. Even to things that scare me.

3. Volunteer more. Get involved with The Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland more in 2014.

4. Read more. I’m going to try really hard to read one non-work related book a month.

5. Attempt to disconnect from electronics more than an hour before bed. I’m trying this for a couple reasons, but the biggest reason is to try and rid myself of insomnia. I’m well aware of the fact that checking work email, reading Tweets or playing Candy Crush are not helping my case of insomnia.

6. Start the process of writing a book. This is a bucket list item. No I have no idea what type of book I want to write. But it’s on the bucket list and I want to work on figuring this out.

7. Along with that, write more on this blog, as well as write more professionally.

8. Put my phone away when at dinner with friends. I’m realizing more and more as I get older that those moments are rare where you get to really talk to friends, not just text back and forth, and I want to cherish those.

9. Take a vacation this year. Like a real one. And turn off my work email. (If this happens, I will feel like 2014 is a success.)

10. Start saving money and staying in more often. Cook dinner (either for myself or for friends or with friends.) I feel like there could be more moments like this in my life, plus I love having people over to my home so there’s that too (also goes along with #8).

11. Do Anna‘s juice cleanse at least 4 times this year. I always feel better after day one and see results. Plus Anna’s so dang positive, I’m hoping her juice cleanse brings this out in me.

12. Find new CLE events to attend and participate in. Cause, well, I love this city.

What resolutions have you set for this year?

Ending the Year with Bubbles

And more bubbles than were probably necessary. But what a fun last few weeks it was. Let’s just review, shall we?

My friend Mel and her hubby Billy threw one of the best Christmas parties/Mel’s birthday party that I have ever been to. Prior to the party, Melissa and I had dinner at Lago and caught up with Jason before he headed off to Utah to do big things. We ate, we drank and we danced our booties off.

Happy Birthday Mel!

Happy Birthday Mel!

During my “staycation” over the last two weeks, I was able to relax, catch up on things around my house and hang out with plenty of friends. Not to mention, I had a guest come to The CLE for New Year’s Eve.

Christmas. Catching my friend Anna on Fox8 talking about her juice cleanse. Cavs with Melissa. Dinner at Hodge's pre-movie with Chris.

To stay our group of friends know how to bring in a New Year is an understatement. With dinner at Fahrenheit (thanks Chef Rocco for a wonderful evening), we started the snowy night off in Tremont listening to fantastic music and having great conversations. Post-dinner, it was off to Lago to ring in 2014 with Fabio and his team at a Great Gatsby style soiree.

Cheers to 2014!

Cheers to 2014!

And now it’s back to work, a routine and a schedule. While I loved my staycation, I need a routine. Plus it’s going to be an exciting couple of months – work travel, the ADDYs, The Hunger Network All in the Bag Fashion Show and more…

How did you bring in the New Year?

Some Truth

This is why I love Amy Poehler. Just some inspiration as we head into 2014.

NYE in The CLE

Well now that Christmas is wrapped up, it’s on to the next celebration. I love winter for a few reasons but mostly because it’s nonstop with events, holidays and celebrations. I love making New Year’s Eve plans with friends and this year’s plans were a no-brainer when Ohio Homecoming announced Cleveland Rocks: New Year’s Eve with Drew Carey and Krewella.

CLENYE_V6_Flat-2

With a beer garden, live entertainment, food trucks, ice sculptures, fireworks and more, the evening is sure to be one to remember. I can’t wait to be with close friends in Public Square – the very center of Downtown CLE – ringing in 2014. (note: while 2013 was a great year, I feel like 2014 is going to be even better).

Who else will I see Downtown ringing in the New Year? Where else will you be celebrating?

Disclaimer: Ohio Homecoming provided me with a pair of the LED gloves for the evening of Cleveland Rocks, however, I was already planning on attending to support the City and all opinions are my own.

My Favorite Things: Giving Back

Have you finished up your Christmas shopping? Looking for a few more gifts to give? I finished up a few weeks ago but find that one of my Favorite Things about the holidays is giving back. Maybe it’s rolling up your sleeves and volunteering at one of the many Cleveland food banks/kitchens. Or maybe it’s donating time at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Or just giving back monetarily. Either way, tis the season for giving and remembering others who are not as fortunate.

I wanted to highlight a couple of non profits here that are more than worthy of your time, talents or a small donation. It’s amazing how far a non profit can stretch a dollar (I know…I used to be in fundraising. You can make it work).

First up, Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland. As you know, I’ve been invited to Rolling on the River the last few years as a blogger/guest and am happy to now be supporting this non profit as an event chair for the All About the Bag fashion show and event (which, of course, you need to buy tickets for and come out for a fun evening. Hello, Cleveland celebs working the runway, Mike Polk Jr. and a diamond drop!)

1150Some facts about the Hunger Network:

60,000 people/month (with 25,000 being children) receive emergency food at one of the Hunger Network Centers. To put it in perspective – that’s 17,000 more than the capacity of Progressive Field.

The Hunger Network serves over 6,500,000 meals per year.

The Hunger Network is responsible for purchasing food from the Foodbank and other wholesalers. From there, they work to put that food directly in the hands of the needy.

Ready to help? Visit The Hunger Network to check out how you can get involved.

Next up, The AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland. As you may remember, I was helping to promote their event with Wicked the past couple weeks (which I’m totally jealous I missed). I also have a few friends who work at the Taskforce and give of their time and energy so selflessly (fundraising people, and those that work in non profits, are a rare type. I tell you that because I know so many of them. They give, and give, and give some more.)

The Taskforce offers plenty of services to assist those in Greater Cleveland dealing with being diagnosed, or having someone close to them diagnosed with, HIV/AIDS. Services range from: health services (including counseling), food and housing (as well as transportation), and advocacy for those living with HIV/AIDs.

To learn more and to donate, click here.

In a season of giving and receiving, don’t forget some of those non profits who think of others day in and day out.

Disclosure – I was not asked to blog about either of these non profits. I volunteer with Hunger Network and have friends at the Taskforce. All opinions are my own.

Holiday Pampering

It’s pretty easy to get stressed out over the holiday season and I try and make it a point every year to not. Mostly because I love Christmas and often take a good amount of time off around the season too. One of the things that helps with holiday stress? Just some good old fashioned pampering. And my go-to salon, Charles Scott Salon  in Rocky River has been just the place to do that.

A couple of weeks ago before Thanksgiving, fellow bloggers Rachel (It’s A Hero) and Jessica (The Tabura Runner) and I planned a Monday night out with manis and pedis at the salon. The team at Charles Scott really helps to create a calm environment, providing an opportunity to just relax and catch up with the ladies. We each went for different shades and of course, I managed to not get any pictures that night. But this was my inspiration:

68ef40ada176fbccf7df4caac23b2adc

Post-salon, of course, we had to head over to Rocky River Wine Bar to continue to relax before the hectic-ness of the holidays picked up. A few glasses of wine and great conversations was exactly what I needed.

Pre-holiday also means that I needed some time with my hair stylist Tina. Last week, I stopped in for a quick touch-up of my dark color and a trim. We’re working on growing my hair out but in the meantime, still need to trim and style while we do that. Tina is fantastic about being honest about the cut and color. She knows exactly how dark I can go without it being too much.

How are you preparing for the holidays?

The Complete 20/20 Experience

Days later and I’m still on a high from the Justin Timberlake concert. I’ve been to quite a few concerts, especially at The Gund (or the Q) and this one far exceeded my expectations. Obvi, I love JT but he really knows how to put on a show. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen him in concert (and I remember that being a fantastic show) but it was nothing like this concert. I mean 3 hours of JT!? My coworkers heard all morning from me with my JT Countdown (and I had three internal meetings, poor coworkers!)

IMG_6715

First things first, we had a group of about 12 girls head over to Hodge’s for pre-show food and cocktails (and the bartenders created a speciality cocktail, Strawberry Bubblegum, just for the show and it was beyond yummy). This group of girls was so much fun to hang out pre-show.

Our “We’re excited for JT” faces

Shaunte and I bought our tickets over six months ago and to be honest, I had no idea what seats I had purchased. But our club seats were a fantastic location and gave us the perfect view of the stage, as well as the floating stage that came over the floor seats. One of the best parts was the people watching – talk about a wide variety of people at a concert. On one side of us we had a couple, in front of us was a group of about 10 that you could tell were up way past their bed time and on the other side were four teenagers who needed to lighten up and have fun. Shaunte and I were not messing around – we danced our asses off and had the best time singing along with JT.

Oh Hey there, Mr. Timberlake...looking good...

Oh Hey there, Mr. Timberlake…looking good…

Were you at the show? Favorite songs? I loved all of the “old school” JT songs, but my current faves that he performed were: Drink You Away, Not a Bad Thing, Take Back the Night and of course, Mirrors (the last song of the night and it seemed like everyone in The Q was singing along).

All in all – the perfect girls night out. Thanks JT.
