Insomniac

I love sleep. Really, I do. When I had thyroid cancer, one of the best things was the amount of sleep that I got due to my thyroid being completely messed up. I would (and did) sleep 8+ hours on a regular basis…sometimes even more like 10-12 hours. Now that wasn’t exactly healthy (obviously as I had a tumor invading my thyroid) but those days of uninterrupted sleep were so nice.

Now….

I’m lucky if I sleep 5 hours. That’s considered a good night. Insomnia has become more of a norm than an occasional annoyance. I toss and turn and toss some more. I attempt to not look at the clock or my phone (let’s be honest, this attempt is often short-lived and weak). I end up on Twitter, reading and catching up on articles and finally giving in and reading a book or even working (if I’m going to be up, why not be productive?)

I’ve come to believe that it will be rare that I ever have more than one night in a row of 8 hours of sleep (typically Friday night is my best sleep night, ranging from 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep) but what I wouldn’t give to have three nights of sleep in a row.

Anyone else suffer from insomnia? What works best for you?

  1. Ugh this sounds miserablllle. I’m so sorry for you 😦 I love sleep. I’m so good at sleeping – but at the same time, I’d LOVE it if I didn’t have to. Imagine how much we’d get done?!
